Recently, it was reported that Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel cannot defeat Hamas and that there is no “military solution,” and that they will have to accept a Palestinian state.
From NBC News:
Blinken told Netanyahu that ultimately there is no military solution to Hamas, according to the officials, and that the Israeli leader needs to recognize that or history will repeat itself and violence will continue. But, the officials said, Netanyahu was unmoved.
The officials said the Biden administration is trying to lay the groundwork with other Israeli and civil society leaders in anticipation of an eventual post-Netanyahu government. In an attempt to work around Netanyahu, Blinken also met individually with members of his war Cabinet and other Israeli leaders, including opposition leader and former Prime Minister Yair Lapid, officials said.
There are also reports that Biden and Netanyahu got into a heated phone call and the President hasn’t spoken to his Israeli counterpart since.
Netanyahu is pushing back and recently said, “In the future, the state of Israel has to control the entire area from the river to the sea.”
The Israeli Prime Minister said that most Israeli citizens are against a Palestinian state as well.
“So it contradicts the idea of self-rule [for the Palestinians]. So what? I tell this truth to our American friends, and I also stopped the attempt to force on us a reality that would harm Israel’s security,” Netanyahu says.

Netanyahu said he told the US there will be no Palestinian state in any post-war scenario. “In any future arrangement … Israel needs security control all territory west of the Jordan,” he said. “This collides with the idea of sovereignty. What can you do?”
