Senator Marshall Backs Trump, Calls for Primary End

Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) has joined a growing number of Republican lawmakers endorsing former President Donald Trump for the 2024 election. This follows Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s endorsement of Trump, indicating the former president’s continued influence in the GOP primary race.

In his endorsement statement, Marshall, a known Trump ally, called for an end to the “political primary charade” and urged unity behind Trump, stating that only Trump could put the country back on track from day one. The senator criticized Trump’s 2024 GOP rivals, emphasizing the need for the GOP to unite and focus on defeating President Joe Biden.

Marshall’s statement highlighted concerns over various policy issues, including rising inflation, the Green New Deal, and the administration’s handling of the southern border. He advocated for an “America first” leader to address what he perceived as failures in Biden’s leadership, particularly in the areas of agriculture, energy independence, and the economy.

The senator accused Biden of unleashing unprecedented federal spending, leading to high inflation and interest rates. Marshall also asserted that Biden’s foreign policy had been weak, claiming failures on the world stage and an abandonment of the nation’s principles, including Christian values and constitutional rights.

With Marshall’s endorsement, at least 13 senators have now backed Trump for a potential 2024 candidacy. Other senators, including Mike Braun (R-IN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Ted Budd (R-NC), have also expressed their support for Trump.

Governor Abbott, endorsing Trump a day earlier, emphasized the need for a president to secure the border and restore law and order. These endorsements underscore Trump’s ongoing influence within the GOP, as key figures align themselves with his leadership and policy priorities. The statements from Marshall and Abbott reflect a broader sentiment among some Republicans that Trump is the figure best suited to address the perceived challenges facing the nation.
