Republicans shocked DC recently and have decided that President Biden is not the only administration official who will undergo impeachment proceedings.
Beginning on January 10 proceedings will begin against DHS
Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
According to Homeland Security Committee chair Mark Green (R-Tenn), a December investigation has found evidence to impeach Mayorkas.
“Our investigation made clear that this crisis finds its foundation in Secretary Mayorkas’ decision-making and refusal to enforce the laws passed by Congress, and that his failure to fulfill his oath of office demands accountability,” Green said in a statement to Punch Bowl News. “The bipartisan House vote in November to refer articles of impeachment to my Committee only served to highlight the importance of our taking up the impeachment process – which is what we will begin doing next Wednesday.”
This is a major escalation after a year long probe conducted by Green. The impeachment of Mayorkas would be only the second time a Cabinet official has been targeted.
The impeachment proceeding will bring the migrant crisis to the front of the hearings. US Customs and Border Protection recently reported that 302,000 migrants crossed in December of 2023.
After the report Mayorkas told CNN that things at the border are improving.

“No matter how many reports Republicans release or hearings they hold, nothing Chairman Green has done this past year has changed the fact that the extreme MAGA Republican effort to impeach Secretary Mayorkas is completely baseless,” said Ranking Member Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) in response to the proceeding. “They’ve only shown the American people it is nothing more than a political stunt without any foundation in the Constitution. It was never meant to be a legitimate investigation – only a MAGA spectacle.”
