Van Jones Discusses Messaging

Well, well, well—looks like someone over at CNN finally said the quiet part out loud. Van Jones, one of the few Democrats willing to admit reality, has basically thrown in the towel, admitting that his party is in absolute shambles. And honestly, it’s about time someone on the Left acknowledged what the rest of us have been saying for years.

Jones didn’t even want to talk about the state of the Democratic Party at first—he literally tried to change the subject to Ukraine, which tells you just how bad things have gotten. But once he gave in, he let loose, calling the situation a “nightmare” and admitting that Democrats don’t know what to do. Well, when your party has spent years prioritizing radical activists over working-class Americans, pushing wildly unpopular policies, and calling half the country racist and sexist, what exactly did you expect?

“Look, man, we’re screwed,” Jones reluctantly said. “I mean, we don’t know, Democrats don’t know what to do. This is — this is a nightmare. You know, somebody like Donald Trump, we thought we’d at least have Hakeem Jeffries in the Speaker’s chair to hold him back if we didn’t have Kamala in there to do the right thing.”

His breakdown of why Democrats are failing was about as honest as you’ll ever hear from a CNN commentator. According to Jones, the party trapped itself in a no-win scenario: defending a broken status quo while simultaneously insulting the majority of the country. Bingo. That’s exactly what happened. Democrats spent years lecturing everyone about how “democracy is on the line” while doing nothing to fix inflation, crime, or the border crisis.

And then, instead of offering solutions, they spent all their energy demonizing everyday Americans who dared to disagree with them. Turns out, people don’t appreciate being called transphobic bigots just for wanting common sense policies. Who knew?

“Listen, the Democratic Party is going through a massive set of internal crises. You have a party that got trapped two ways. One, defending a broken status quo that nobody likes because they thought that Donald Trump was going to make it worse. But when you’re defending the status quo, you’re going to lose,” Jones continued. “And then offending most people in the country, calling everybody sexist and racist and transphobic and every other name, and then saying, ‘Please follow us.’ That’s not a good strategy, folks.”

“Defending a broken status quo and offending most of the country, turns out, is not as popular as my party thought it was going to be,” Jones said. “And so it’s going to take a while for people to get it figured out.”

Jones also lamented the fact that Democrats don’t even have control of the House, saying they were hoping to at least have Hakeem Jeffries as Speaker to “hold Trump back.” That right there tells you everything about their priorities. They’re not focused on governing. They’re not focused on fixing problems. They’re just obsessed with stopping Trump—because deep down, they know that their policies aren’t cutting it.

And it’s not just Jones sounding the alarm. Senator Elissa Slotkin admitted on Meet the Press that Democrats have been “on their heels” since the election. Well, yeah. That’s what happens when your entire strategy is based on fear-mongering and moral superiority instead of real leadership. Voters rejected that nonsense in 2024, and now the Left is scrambling to figure out how to stay relevant.

The Democratic Party is stuck in a crisis of its own making. They alienated the middle class, let radicals take over their agenda, and doubled down on policies that are making life worse for everyday Americans. Meanwhile, they still don’t have a coherent plan for 2025 and beyond. Van Jones is right—his party is in big trouble. And unless they start listening to the voters they’ve spent years mocking and ignoring, they’re just going to keep losing.
