Virginia Man Accused Of Trying To Steal Two Airplanes

The financial steward of Virginia’s $4 billion Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) system is at the center of a stunning legal scandal involving allegations of aviation fraud, credit card abuse, and systematic deception, raising serious concerns about accountability in one of the largest school districts in the United States.

According to an amended lawsuit filed by Blue Label Aviation, Kyle McDaniel, an at-large school board member and chair of the district’s budget committee, orchestrated a years-long scheme to steal two aircraft valued at $1.5 million—all while using company credit cards to finance strip club visits, personal luxuries, and his political campaign.

The lawsuit, first reported by The Daily Wire, paints a picture of deliberate, calculated fraud. McDaniel allegedly transferred ownership of two Piper Archer planes from his company Commonwealth Aviation Services to nonexistent LLCs — N1463T LLC and N555AZ LLC — just prior to merging with Aero Elite in March 2023 to form Blue Label Aviation.

The complaint says McDaniel re-registered the aircraft under these phony companies using the FAA database, knowing that it would take months for the re-registration process to appear in official records. He later retroactively formed the LLCs — only after being confronted by the company’s CEO in January 2025.

The financial damage? At least $1.5 million, according to the lawsuit. But the ripple effects go much deeper. As the head of the FCPS budget committee, McDaniel plays a pivotal role in shaping the district’s fiscal priorities — even as the district claims to be in a financial crisis, cutting services and enlisting students to beg local officials for more funding.

That same month, the school system launched a lobbying effort encouraging children to use an “activist toolkit” to push for more money. Meanwhile, the official managing that very budget allegedly spent $150,000 in personal expenses on company credit cards, including strip clubs — even during a school board trip to New Orleans.

The lawsuit says McDaniel confessed repeatedly, repaid some funds, and continued the behavior anyway. He allegedly refused to relinquish access to corporate accounts, deleted work emails, and engaged in other “suspicious activity.” After being asked to resign, he allegedly attempted to sell the aircraft to third parties.

Now, Blue Label Aviation has filed a motion to block McDaniel from transferring or selling the planes until trial.

McDaniel’s political ascent is also under scrutiny. Despite being married with children, he secured early endorsements from LGBT organizations after identifying as bisexual, winning Democratic Party backing and knocking out a Republican challenger by running as an “independent.”

On the campaign trail, McDaniel leaned heavily on his aviation background, saying, “In my career field, aviation, there is zero tolerance for dishonesty… I bring this same approach to public service.”

Now, those very credentials are at the core of a lawsuit alleging fraud, deception, and abuse of trust.

Saundra Davis, a Republican who narrowly lost the 2023 school board race, said the allegations demand immediate action. “At a minimum, Kyle McDaniel should be removed as chair of the $4 billion Fairfax County public school budget committee,” she said. “Blindly voting straight down a sample ballot is not the path to meaningful change in our county.”

Davis isn’t alone. Many are now asking how someone under such scrutiny can continue to hold oversight power over taxpayer dollars, and why the all-Democrat school board hasn’t acted more swiftly.
