Giorgia Meloni says basta. She is moving to ban full-face coverings in Italian schools. The goal is simple: keep Italian schools Italian. She wants to stop the foreign takeover of classrooms. She announced this at the Fenix festival, the annual youth event for her party, where she told student supporters that Italian children must not become a minority in their own schools.
Italian PM Meloni:
The proposed measure will introduce an obligation for the parents of foreign students with serious school-integration problems to learn Italian, and it will introduce a ban on the burqa and niqab at school.

Per Breitbart, Meloni said her government will introduce new laws. These laws will limit the number of foreign students in each class. They will also ban burqas and niqabs in schools. She called this a question of civilization. She made a clear point about gender. In Italy, no one may force a young woman to conceal her face under the guise of actual or assumed tradition, even as we attend school unveiled. Gender equality is non-negotiable, she said.

According to RedState, she added that parents of foreign students with integration problems must learn Italian. This is a strict requirement for families. She believes it is unthinkable that Italian children feel cornered. It is inconceivable that Italian pupils in an Italian classroom would feel trapped simply because they have turned into the minority. It can’t be done, she said. A law capping the maximum number of foreign students in classes is soon to be introduced by her.

Pressure on borders is mounting everywhere, not just in one country. Meloni holds the distinction of leading the longest-serving government in post-war Italy. She knows the political stakes. She faces pressure from the right at home. A former Italian Army general named Roberto Vannacci is pushing her further. He leads the Futuro Nazionale movement. He wants even tougher action on migration. Other European nations have struggled with this issue. Paris has “no-go zones” where law enforcement is not welcomed. In Spain, thousands of migrants swarmed into the city of Ceuta. Over 10,000 remain there.

Italy is pushing back. The Interior Ministry closed air and sea borders with Spain in late July. This temporarily suspended the free movement pact. Meloni is trying to stop the flow before it gets worse. Meloni is partnering with Denmark’s Mette Freidrickson. They want to set up third-party asylum centers. This would allow illegal migrants to be removed immediately. They would not stay on EU soil while claims are processed.
