Vance Gives Statement Following DC Mid-Air Accident

Well, there it is—the brutal truth the media doesn’t want to touch with a ten-foot pole. Vice President JD Vance just spelled it out: DEI policies, pushed aggressively by the Obama and Biden administrations, have played a direct role in staffing shortages among air traffic controllers, and now we’re seeing the deadly consequences. But, of course, the second President Trump dared to point this out, the usual suspects in the press went into full meltdown mode, clutching their pearls and pretending like this was some sort of wild, baseless accusation.

Let’s be clear: Trump never said that the controller responsible for the tragic mid-air collision near Reagan National Airport was a so-called DEI hire. That was never the point. The real issue—one that the left refuses to acknowledge—is that these disastrous DEI hiring practices have created a system where air traffic controllers are overworked, understaffed, and, in some cases, not even the most qualified people for the job. Vance laid it out plain and simple: if you’ve spent years prioritizing race, gender, and diversity quotas over sheer competence, don’t act surprised when safety standards start slipping.

And slip they have. The FAA’s own preliminary report admitted that staffing at the tower during the collision was “not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic.” Read between the lines: they didn’t have enough controllers handling one of the busiest airspaces in the country. To make matters worse, the person responsible for managing helicopters was also tasked with handling incoming and outgoing planes—a job typically spread across multiple controllers. But sure, let’s all pretend that woke hiring policies and bureaucratic incompetence had nothing to do with it.

This isn’t just some isolated incident, either. Vance pointed out that the air traffic control system has been short-staffed for years—not because there aren’t qualified candidates, but because certain applicants were told outright not to apply because they were the wrong skin color. That’s not a conspiracy theory. That’s not right-wing hysteria. That’s a documented fact.

There have been multiple lawsuits from people who wanted to become air traffic controllers but were shut out thanks to Biden and Obama-era DEI mandates. So, instead of hiring based on merit, the system was rigged in favor of identity politics, and now we’re left with an industry struggling to fill critical positions with the best and brightest.

And here’s the thing—this was avoidable. Anyone with common sense could have told you that obsessing over diversity quotas in fields that require precision, skill, and split-second decision-making would eventually lead to disaster. But instead of focusing on basic qualifications and ensuring we had enough controllers in place, the last two Democratic administrations spent their time virtue-signaling about “equity” while ignoring actual competence. The result? An air traffic control system in crisis and a nation that has seen an alarming rise in near-misses, runway mishaps, and now, tragically, a fatal mid-air collision.

But here’s the good news: President Trump isn’t just pointing out the problem—he’s fixing it. Vance made it clear that under Trump’s leadership, these DEI-driven hiring policies are being dismantled, and the focus is shifting back to safety and merit. That means hiring the best air traffic controllers, giving them the staffing they need, and ensuring that the skies are safe for everyone. It’s not controversial. It’s just common sense.

Of course, the left and their media allies will continue to spin, deflect, and deny reality because admitting they were wrong would be too painful. But here’s the bottom line: this is what happens when ideology trumps competence. The American people are sick of it, and thanks to Trump and Vance, we’re finally seeing leadership that puts safety and skill ahead of woke nonsense.
