Ah, yes. Another day, another completely unhinged leftist attempting to commit political violence while the media desperately tries to downplay it as “poor judgment” or a “protest gone wrong.” This time, it’s Ryan Michael English, a man who demands to be called Riley Jane English, but let’s be real—when you’re caught hauling Molotov cocktails with a hit list of top Republican officials, your pronouns aren’t exactly priority number one.
According to authorities, English made his way to Washington, D.C., allegedly planning to assassinate Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, a move inspired by—you guessed it—some rambling internet post about a confirmation hearing. Because nothing says rational political discourse quite like deciding to kill a government official over a headline you read online. But wait, there’s more. English apparently had an even bigger wish list of Republican targets, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and House Speaker Mike Johnson, before zeroing in on Bessent. And let’s not forget about his plan to burn down the Heritage Foundation because nothing screams “tolerance” like setting fire to a conservative think tank.
Now, if this had been a 24-year-old man in a MAGA hat caught with a trunk full of Molotovs, we all know exactly how this story would have played out. CNN would have a 24-hour breaking news cycle calling it the biggest terror plot since 9/11. MSNBC would be dragging every “expert” out of their basement to explain how “right-wing extremism” is the greatest threat to our democracy. There’d be congressional hearings, breathless think pieces, and at least three dramatic Rachel Maddow monologues. But instead? Crickets. Or, at best, a carefully worded “let’s not rush to judgment” narrative because, apparently, some politically motivated violence just doesn’t fit their preferred storyline.
And of course, English’s attorney, Assistant Federal Public Defender Maria Jacob, wasted no time spinning this as a misunderstanding. She actually had the audacity to argue that English should be released because he was just engaging in an ill-advised “protest” and had “no criminal history.” Right. Because nothing says “peaceful demonstration” like Molotov cocktails and assassination plots. Jacob even went so far as to say English “took no action” to use the items he possessed. Ah, yes, because merely transporting the weapons you planned to use doesn’t count, apparently. By that logic, I guess a guy caught with a loaded gun outside the White House should just be let go as long as he hasn’t pulled the trigger yet.
Leftist Extremist Attempts Assassination, And the Left Goes Silent

And just when you think this story can’t get any crazier, English tried to justify his actions by referencing Luigi Mangione—the lunatic accused of assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December. You know, the guy whose supporters gathered outside the courthouse holding signs that read, “Private Healthcare Is A Crime Against Humanity” and “Deny, Defend, Depose.” That’s right, a terrorist sympathizer was wandering around D.C. with Molotov cocktails, and we’re supposed to believe this is just a case of “poor judgment”?
But here’s the best part: English also claimed to have a congenital heart defect and “only months to live.” Ah, the classic I had nothing to lose excuse. Call me cynical, but it sure sounds like someone trying to gain sympathy after getting caught red-handed. Because what’s more convenient than throwing out a tragic personal backstory after an assassination plot doesn’t quite go as planned?
So where’s the media outrage? Where’s the wall-to-wall coverage? Where’s the hand-wringing about “left-wing extremism” and the danger of radicalized activists taking matters into their own hands? Nowhere. Because acknowledging this kind of political violence would mean admitting that the real threat isn’t just coming from one side. It would mean admitting that the same people constantly preaching about “democracy” are often the first ones cheering when their enemies get silenced, threatened, or worse.
The threat at the Capital was first meant to be for Defense Sec’y Pete Hegseth and House Speaker Mike Johnson but the suspect Ryan Michael English, changed his mind to kill Scott Bessent by throwing a molotov cocktail at Bessents feet. pic.twitter.com/zXxtKwm3bl

English isn’t just some misguided activist who made a mistake. He’s part of a larger, growing trend of unhinged leftists who believe violence is justified as long as it’s directed at the right people. And until the media, the justice system, and the political class start treating all political violence with the same level of scrutiny, this won’t be the last time we see a headline like this.
