A major RV retailer, Camping World RV Sales, is locking horns with San Joaquin County over a giant American flag proudly flying over their dealership.
Camping World, like many of its 250 locations nationwide, loves to display a massive American flag. However, this tradition hit a snag in April when San Joaquin County ordered the dealership to remove the flag. The county cited safety concerns and a lack of proper permits for the flagpole, according to Fox40.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The county’s main concern is the flagpole’s proximity to property lines and the highway, deeming it potentially dangerous. But Camping World’s CEO, Marcus Lemonis, isn’t backing down. He had the flag reinstalled on Monday, firmly believing that the flagpole poses no danger.
“If we felt like we were putting people in danger or causing any issues with air traffic, which would absolutely not be OK, then I wouldn’t do it,” Lemonis told FOX40. He insists the flagpole is securely set deep in the ground and wouldn’t budge on this issue, especially since it’s the American flag at stake.
Lemonis, a proud immigrant and now a U.S. citizen, holds the flag in high regard. “It’s symbolism about how we feel about this country. We have a lot of veterans who work for us, and a lot of veterans who shop with us,” he shared. Lemonis’ connection to the flag goes way back to his childhood in Miami, where his family’s car dealership had the largest flagpole in the area.
The county has since acknowledged Camping World’s application for a building permit for the flagpole, which is currently under review.
