The political rumor mill spun itself into overdrive this week as yet another round of speculative headlines suggested that Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem might be getting shown the door. But according to the White House, it’s nothing more than fantasy fiction — and they’re not holding back.
As I told MS Now when they reached out, this is all fake news. Secretary Noem is doing a great job implementing the President’s agenda and making America safe again. https://t.co/zAPYC4QjyE

On Monday, Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson fired back on X, calling the MS NOW (formerly MSNBC) report “total fake news,” and doubling down on Noem’s standing within the Trump administration.
“Secretary Noem is doing a great job implementing the President’s agenda and making America safe again,” Jackson wrote. And she didn’t stop there. Speaking to Fox News, she accused MS NOW of “inventing narratives that simply are not true,” delivering the kind of rebuke usually reserved for outright satire.
The MS NOW piece, citing four unnamed sources, claimed President Trump was seriously considering removing Noem as early as next month. The article danced between vague declarations and conditional phrasing — “not fully finalized,” “potential that she maybe sticks around” — phrases that keep speculation alive while providing an escape hatch if the prediction doesn’t pan out.
This story is 100% Fake News, and the White House repeatedly told this to CNN in the strongest possible terms. Yet they still wrote the story because their ratings are dying so they thrive off drama that does not exist.

But the White House has dealt with this kind of reporting before — and they’re getting more aggressive in their pushback. Back in November, CNN ran a similar story about an alleged cabinet shakeup, only to be met with fierce denials.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt slammed the network, accusing them of chasing ratings at the expense of truth. “This story is 100% Fake News,” she wrote, adding that Trump “could not be happier” with his cabinet.
This time, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin even took a humorous jab, telling Fox she’d “seen more credible reporting on Big Foot.”
