Thirty-four states are already joining the effort. New York Post reports that states like Florida, Indiana, and Louisiana are on board. The plan includes a new website with digital ads to find the right people. It lists federal and private resources to help. Washington Times notes that the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Defense, and Labor are helping lead the charge.
The numbers behind this move are hard to ignore. New York Post cites Department of Transportation data showing at least 30 deaths in 2025. Seventeen fatal crashes by illegal immigrant commercial drivers resulted in these deaths. More than 24,000 licenses were already pulled from the highways in a recent crackdown. President Trump said the old way was dangerous. He stated that illegal immigrants “cannot read basic road signs.” He added that in many cases, they caused “many, many preventable deaths.”
He didn’t hold back on the cause of the problem. “Radical left maniacs at the state level have issued them commercial driver’s licenses, even though they’re not entitled to have them,” Trump said. He recalled a specific crash in Florida where a driver made a U-turn and killed three people. The President declared that illegal alien truck drivers must be removed from American roadways. He said, “It’s about time.”
