President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that Iranians will not rise up against their government because they are being shot.
The President spoke from the Oval Office to explain why the expected uprising has not occurred.
Trump told reporters it “wouldn’t be appropriate to say” if U.S. intelligence helps protesters.
He expressed deep sympathy for the people facing violence on the streets of their own country.
“I understand their plight, they’re being shot,” Trump said directly to the press.
He noted that he asked when the people would fight, knowing the answer was grim.
I pose that query with a certain awareness of the reply. The only answer is that they’re being shot, Trump said.
This explains why it is not occurring, and no one could fault them. Trump asked Wednesday.
According to the Washington Examiner, he claimed roughly 65,000 demonstrators have died since the rebellion attempt started.
On Tuesday night, Trump took to social media to clarify his stance on negotiations.
He wrote that he is “not trying to force Iran to the bargaining table”.
Instead, he stated he is simply waiting for the country to implode on its own.
“I couldn’t care less if [Iranian officials] sign a worthless, to them, agreement,” Trump said on Truth Social.
He believes the current U.S. position is far stronger than any potential deal could be.
“I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing,” Trump said.
He added that the regime is just playing out the inevitable as their economy fails.
Trump warned earlier on Tuesday that Iranian retaliation would be met with intense military action.
He said the country would “be no longer” if they strike back at the United States.
The President emphasized that the U.S. has already given the regime many opportunities to change.
“We gave them a lot of chances,” Trump said during his remarks.
He also dismissed the value of any agreement, stating it isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.
Trump specifically addressed reports from ABC News, calling them fake news for suggesting he wants a deal.
“I’m not trying to force Iran to the bargaining table, as ABC Fake News reported,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
