In the middle of vandalism, assaults, and open hostility toward law enforcement, a known gang member allegedly helped himself to FBI body armor and weapons from a vandalized federal vehicle. That alone should end any debate about whether this was “peaceful protest.”
According to federal authorities, Raul Gutierrez, 33, was arrested Thursday after a night of mayhem in which multiple FBI vehicles were destroyed and defaced. Attorney General Pam Bondi identified the suspect as a known member of the violent Latin Kings gang, describing him as someone with a lengthy history of violent crime. The allegation is stark: during the unrest, Gutierrez allegedly stole FBI-issued body armor and weaponry from one of the damaged vehicles.

Bondi didn’t mince words. She called the suspect “a perfect example of what our brave federal law enforcement agents are up against every day,” while directly tying the violence to a political climate in Minnesota that she says has encouraged lawbreaking rather than condemned it.
While officials have not yet detailed exactly which weapons were taken or the precise charges filed, the seriousness of the alleged theft is unmistakable.
Authorities were initially drawn to the scene Wednesday evening after reports that a federal officer had been assaulted in North Minneapolis. When they arrived, they found a disturbing tableau: government vehicles with shattered windows, scrawled with red-painted, hate-filled messages. This was not random vandalism. It was targeted, deliberate, and hostile toward federal authority.
In response, the FBI offered a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible and the recovery of stolen property. It remains unclear whether Gutierrez’s arrest resulted from a tip connected to that reward or from investigative work already underway. What is clear is that the investigation is far from over.
FBI Director Kash Patel made that point explicit, stating that agents are continuing to pursue other individuals involved in the attacks. “There will be more arrests,” he said, underscoring that anyone who assaults law enforcement or vandalizes federal property paid for by taxpayers will be found and held accountable.
