Movie Critic Faces Backlash Over Review

Well, well, well—looks like Beetlejuice fans are still summoning the ghost with the most, and he’s cashing in big time. Tim Burton’s spooky sequel dominated the box office again this weekend, raking in a cool $51.6 million. That’s $188 million domestically and $264.3 million worldwide. Not bad for a guy who lives in the afterlife rent-free. But don’t worry, it wasn’t all sandworms and striped suits at the theaters this weekend.

However, what is shocking is that the conservative underdog movie came in fourth place. You’ve got that right. The Daily Wire snuck into the box office party with Matt Walsh’s mockumentary, Am I Racist?, pulling in $4.7 million from just 1,517 theaters. That’s right—this low-budget “Conservative Borat” managed to outperform some big Hollywood productions, and yet, shockingly (not really), mainstream critics seem to be pretending it doesn’t exist. The Left ignoring a conservative film? Color me surprised.

But when Beetlejuice is chanting his way to the top, Matt Walsh is busy stirring the pot—this time by going undercover as a DEI trainee. It’s classic Walsh, following up his What Is a Woman? gender ideology takedown with another dive into the left’s favorite buzzwords, this time asking some uncomfortable questions about race. Naturally, critics are running for the hills, terrified they might catch a case of critical thinking. Enter Jeremy Jahns, a YouTube reviewer with almost 2 million subscribers, who actually dared to review the film and—gasp—found it funny. How dare he!

Cue the social media meltdown. Jahns was immediately labeled a “racist” and “sellout” because apparently, having an independent thought these days is a criminal offense. But honestly, what’s more predictable than the Left’s playbook at this point? They’ve got the same strategy every time: demonize anyone who dares even acknowledge a conservative film exists and hope the rest of the critics fall in line. It’s like clockwork.

The irony here is almost too much. Jahns mentions in his review that he nearly skipped the film because of the controversy surrounding it, only to realize that that hesitation is exactly the problem the film tackles. And despite all the vitriol being spewed his way, Jahns genuinely enjoyed the movie, calling Walsh “surprisingly funny” and praising the way he asked sharp, thought-provoking questions. You’d think the Left would appreciate a guy who’s “asking questions”—oh wait, wrong side of the aisle.

While Am I Racist? is getting ignored by critics, it’s sitting pretty with a 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. And for a $3 million flick to land fourth place at the box office? Not too shabby. Meanwhile, you can bet the media will be too busy covering Beetlejuice and whatever woke reboot is on the horizon to even mention that Walsh’s film has audiences laughing and thinking.

But hey, maybe this is all part of a secret Daily Wire conspiracy. After all, one Twitter genius already speculated that Jeremy Jahns must’ve gotten a “juicy offer” from the Daily Wire to review the film. Because clearly, no one could possibly enjoy a conservative comedy unless they’re getting paid, right? Makes sense—if you live in a bubble where thinking for yourself is forbidden.

At the end of the day, it seems like the real scary movie this weekend isn’t Beetlejuice—it’s conservatives daring to make audiences laugh and question the status quo. Now, that is what truly terrifies Hollywood.
