Former Republican Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland served from 2015 to 2023 and left office with an excellent approval rating.
On February 9, 2024, he announced that he would run for the state’s Senate seat, which Democratic Senator Ben Cardin was vacating.
Hogan, who had a 77% approval rating as Governor, leads both potential Democratic rivals in the polls by 12 to 14% points.
From the Dailycaller:
In a hypothetical general election match-up against Trone, Hogan would earn the support of 49% of respondents compared to 37% for Trone, and led Alsobrooks 50% to 36% according to the poll.
Hogan also exceeds the other two candidates in terms of favorability ratings, with a 64% favorability among respondents, compared to just 33% for Trone and 26% for Alsobrooks.
As inflation is out of control and Marylanders are struggling to pay their bills, the legislature is considering the largest tax increase in history—a $4 billion tax on everyone and everything. This will destroy Maryland’s economy and cost us businesses and jobs.

A Republican candidate leading in Maryland is happening in a state with a Cook Partisan Voting Index score of D+14.
Hogan is not a fan of former President Trump, endorsed Haley during the primary and has said (for now) he won’t vote for Trump in the upcoming election.

Meanwhile, something new has popped up on MSNBC that is of note.
It appears that RFK is pulling interest away from Biden because MSNBC is worried about it. In a segment, former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki voiced her concern.
“These third party candidates are a huge, huge, huge problem. And there’s a number of them. If you look at RFK Jr., it’s the name recognition issue, as Tom was just talking about. And there are still states in this country, obviously — I mean, Georgia is one of them, I will name, where the Kennedy name is beloved, where people may just not still —” Psaki said as Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski interrupted, saying, “right.”
Psakie worried that Democrats were being fooled and called RFK Jr. a “conspiracy theorist. They don’t know that yet. So this is something. There is an aggressive effort that the campaign has been working with the Democratic National Committee on to run on this, but it needs to be broad, people need to be shouting it from the rooftops because this is one of the biggest threats to Joe Biden being reelected, is these third party candidates.”
They are starting to panic, folks.
