Hays Comments On Trump

You’d think that if you were best known for wearing a fuzzy costume to literally redirect a sitting president away from reporters’ questions, you might think twice before taking cheap shots about anyone else’s age or mental acuity. But that didn’t stop former Biden White House aide Meghan Hays from logging on to X (formerly Twitter) and confidently declaring, “Donald Trump is aging rapidly. It should concern us all.”

Concern? Let’s talk concern.

Within minutes, Hays’ attempt at commentary was met with a tidal wave of mockery, as social media users reminded the internet exactly who she was: not just a low-level staffer in a bunny suit, but the White House director of message planning — the person responsible for presidential optics — who once dressed up as the Easter Bunny and physically intervened when Joe Biden started veering off-message in front of the press. Yes, that Easter Bunny.

The viral 2022 footage — now making the rounds again — shows the oversized rabbit cutting off Biden mid-conversation and guiding him away from reporters. It was jarring then, and it’s downright comical in hindsight. That the “bunny” was a high-ranking comms official tasked with managing messaging only makes it more surreal.

Conservative writer Stephen L. Miller cut straight to the point: “The person in the bunny costume was Meghan Hays. This wasn’t just some random intern trying to distract Joe Biden. She was literally a special advisor to the president and the person in charge of messaging planning to the media.” And that’s precisely what made the moment so memorable — and so damning.

At the time, many assumed the incident was just another odd Biden gaffe moment. But the confirmation that the bunny was a senior advisor only deepened concerns about how much staff is required to keep the president on-script — or away from scrutiny. Hays didn’t just stand next to Biden in costume — she functionally censored him, hopping into action the moment he went off course.

So for Hays to now publicly question Trump’s appearance or vitality — a man who routinely holds marathon rallies, fields press questions without handlers in rabbit costumes, and commands grueling campaign schedules — is more than ironic. It’s absurd.

And it’s not as though Trump’s energy is in question. At 79, he’s outpacing politicians half his age. Meanwhile, Biden, only a few years older, is surrounded by an ever-growing wall of staff whose job seems less about messaging and more about managing visibility. From cheat sheets at pressers to stage whispers from aides, the White House has become a choreography of cover.

To be clear, aging is natural. But it’s not the number — it’s the capacity. And judging by optics alone, there’s no contest. The man needing a bunny bodyguard in public isn’t the one running circles around opponents on the campaign trail.
