Elton John Comments On Trump’s Use Of Song Title

Elton John showed that he’s not just a music legend—he’s also got a great sense of humor when it comes to politics.

In a recent interview with Variety, the “Rocket Man” singer revealed he wasn’t the least bit offended when former President Donald Trump nicknamed North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un “Little Rocket Man.” In fact, he found it downright hilarious.

Despite not seeing eye to eye with Trump on many policies, John admitted he appreciated the former president’s longtime support of his music. “Donald’s always been a fan of mine,” John shared, noting that Trump had attended many of his concerts over the years. When Trump pulled from John’s iconic song to mock Kim Jong Un, John couldn’t help but laugh.

“I laughed. I thought that was brilliant,” John said with a smile. “I just thought, ‘Good on you, Donald.’”

“Donald’s always been a fan of mine, and he’s been to my concerts many, many times,” the singer continued. “So I’ve always been friendly toward him, and I thank him for his support. When he did that, I just thought it was hilarious.”

It seems even Trump’s over-the-top diplomacy tactics could get a smile out of the music legend. John also chuckled at the story of Trump sending an autographed CD to Kim Jong Un after the North Korean leader didn’t get the reference. John wasn’t surprised: “Of course he hasn’t heard of me. I’ve never toured North Korea, and I have no intention of doing so. But, I thought it was a light moment, and it was fun”

It was a refreshing take from John, who found humor in a tense geopolitical moment. In a time when so many in the entertainment world bristle at the mere mention of Trump, John’s lighthearted reaction shows that sometimes, even politics can have a fun side.
