The formula seems simple: big hair, toothy smile, and a splash of charisma, served up as if that’s all it takes to turn a deeply unpopular leader into presidential timber. But outside the echo chambers of social media, the picture looks far less flattering — and Casey DeSantis made sure to remind everyone of it.

Casey pointed back to the now-famous debate moment when her husband, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, pulled out the infamous San Francisco “poop map” — a literal chart showing where human waste litters California’s streets. One image was all it took to puncture the glossy veneer Newsom’s supporters try to polish. It was humiliating, visceral, and unforgettable. No TikTok filter can make that vanish.
To make matters worse, Newsom has never shown much in the way of self-awareness. If anything, he leans harder into the arrogance, strutting on national TV while ignoring the glaring failures of his state: homelessness at record highs, crime spiraling, and residents fleeing California in droves.

His wife may understand the limits of his image, even saving him from disaster more than once, but that only underscores the problem. If your spouse has to run interference to protect you from yourself, maybe you’re not ready to run the country.
Democrats are circling Gavin Newsom for 2028.

And then there’s the policy record — the part that TikTok montages conveniently leave out. Newsom isn’t just presiding over decay at home; he’s enabling it with dangerous policies. Most recently, outrage boiled over after reports tied California’s decision to hand out driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants to a tragic case where Floridians were killed. Critics argue Newsom should bear responsibility for prioritizing political correctness over public safety.
