There are some things the internet simply can’t unsee, and James Comey’s latest viral oddity falls firmly into that category. Dressed in a suit, sitting earnestly in front of the camera, the former FBI Director launched into a confessional about COVID, bullies, and—most bewildering of all—his deep personal connection to Taylor Swift.
Yes, Taylor Swift.
I will repeat what I have said many times: there is something fundamentally off about Comey.pic.twitter.com/ax9ZRKkw8b

Comey gushed about blasting her music while mowing the lawn, revealed he’s part of a family “Swiftie” group chat, and even cited her lyrics as guiding wisdom for dealing with political adversaries. It was less of a statement and more of a stream-of-consciousness fan monologue — the kind of thing you’d expect from a teenager on TikTok, not a 63-year-old man once entrusted with the nation’s highest secrets.
Yes. Also, if he’s signaling, I guess they like Taylor Swift.

And predictably, X (formerly Twitter) recoiled. Watching Comey’s video was like watching a car crash in slow motion: you wanted to look away, but the sheer strangeness kept you glued. Users quickly branded it “THE COMEY VIDEO,” declaring it possibly the creepiest clip in the history of the platform — a high bar to clear. The reaction was so visceral that many admitted they couldn’t even finish the video.

What made it worse is that this isn’t Comey’s first brush with cringe. His infamous “shell” photo episodes — where he posted seashells in cryptic arrangements, one reading “86 47” and another “Vote Harris” — already left people scratching their heads. But at least those were silent. This time, he’s quoting Swift’s Mean as though it were foreign policy strategy.
Somebody needs to check his computer……

The uncomfortable truth is that Comey seems to lack any filter about what moments of his personal life are worth broadcasting to the world. Once a symbol of institutional gravitas, he’s now turned himself into a walking meme, underscoring the decline of a public figure who doesn’t seem to realize how odd he comes across.
