Blitzer Asks Congressman About Biden And Clooney

In a rare moment of pointed journalism on CNN, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) faced a barrage of tough questions from Wolf Blitzer about the Democratic Party’s handling of President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline—a topic that, until recently, had been largely tiptoed around in mainstream media.

The interview took a sharp turn when Blitzer referenced a widely reported incident in which Biden allegedly failed to recognize actor George Clooney at a fundraiser Clooney was hosting on his behalf. Blitzer cut to the core of growing public concern: “Why should voters trust Democrats when it’s clear so many in your party went to great lengths to keep Biden’s condition hidden from the public?”

Jeffries responded with the kind of sidestep that’s become all too familiar in Washington. “I can’t tell you what happened between George Clooney and President Biden. I wasn’t at that event,” he said, before pivoting entirely to generic talking points about forward-looking leadership and Republican policy bogeymen. He insisted Democrats are focused on “health care, food assistance,” and other issues—but completely ignored the core concern about transparency and truthfulness.

The dodge only prompted Blitzer to dig deeper.

“You interacted with President Biden during those final days,” Blitzer pressed. “Did you see, did you sense that there was a major deterioration?”

Jeffries, again, danced around the substance of the question. He admitted only that internal conversations were focused on “what would be best for the party at that given moment in time,” and confirmed that Biden had ultimately decided to pass the baton to Vice President Kamala Harris—a decision that was apparently welcomed by Democratic leadership, but not discussed openly with the public at the time.

As public confidence in Biden’s mental fitness deteriorated over the course of his final months in office, Democratic leadership continued to publicly prop him up, refusing to entertain questions about his capacity even as signs became unmistakable. That pattern—maintaining appearances until a quiet internal decision was reached—has now come under intense scrutiny.

When asked point-blank whether he should have intervened earlier, Jeffries again deflected. Rather than grappling with the implications of a party that appeared to prioritize political optics over honesty, he fell back on a now-familiar refrain: “Democrats are winning special elections” and “voters reject MAGA extremism.”

Blitzer’s questioning highlights what may become a major narrative shift as the 2028 election cycle begins. If Biden’s decline was known and concealed, as critics allege, that represents a major breach of public trust—one that implicates not just the President, but the highest ranks of Democratic leadership, including Jeffries himself.

While many Democratic insiders are now attempting to frame Biden’s exit as a graceful and selfless handoff, the mounting evidence suggests a quiet cover-up, with powerbrokers carefully managing an unraveling presidency behind the scenes while continuing to tell the public everything was fine.
