President Donald Trump confirmed Monday that the United States will be sending additional weapons to Ukraine, citing intensified Russian attacks and growing humanitarian losses.
The announcement follows earlier reports that the administration had temporarily paused certain arms shipments due to concerns over depleted U.S. stockpiles.
Speaking during a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump was asked directly whether more military aid would be sent to Ukraine. “We’re going to send some more weapons,” he said. “We have to; they have to be able to defend themselves. They’re getting hit very hard now… we’re going to have to send more weapons — defensive weapons, primarily.”

The comments mark a notable shift from the administration’s earlier position. According to The Washington Post, the Department of Defense halted several shipments at the beginning of July after a logistical review revealed that U.S. military reserves were running low.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly confirmed last week that the pause was triggered by readiness concerns, not a change in foreign policy.
Trump’s remarks also come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the war. As previously reported by Breitbart News, the president has been in private discussions with both Ukrainian and Russian officials, including a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin in early June. Trump described the conversation as “good” but acknowledged it would not “lead to immediate peace.”
On Monday, Trump said he was “disappointed” in Putin’s refusal to de-escalate hostilities, adding that the situation on the ground has worsened significantly in recent weeks.
While the White House continues to describe the planned shipments as “defensive” in nature, officials have not released specific details about the systems or equipment involved. The renewed commitment to Ukraine underscores the administration’s balancing act: maintaining U.S. military readiness while supporting Kyiv’s efforts to repel Russian advances.
No timeline was given for when the resumed shipments would begin.
