President Trump invited top tech leaders to the White House this week. The guest list included Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg. It is not clear what will come from the meeting. But the reason for the invite is very clear.
According to the New York Post, the event was about politics. The goal is to help the GOP avoid a bad showing in the 2026 midterm elections. The party is worried about losing seats. This is the driving force behind the gathering. Tech investor David Sacks was there too. The White House AI Czar recently resigned from his post. He was there to warn against slowing down AI research. He argues that stopping now only helps competitors like China.
While the AI talk continues, other issues are pressing voters. The New York Post reports that AI has helped create jobs and lower inflation. But the benefits are not shared by everyone. Many voters are still worried about the price of gas. House Speaker Mike Johnson knows this is a problem. He pushed for the meeting to find a balance. The goal is to make rules without killing the industry. He wants to thread the needle on regulation.
Meanwhile, President Trump is taking his message on the road. He traveled to Texas to support Senate candidate Ken Paxton. Trump described Paxton as “one of the most loyal people.” He also noted that Paxton “was at my side more than anybody.”
During his stop at Peterbilt Motors, Trump highlighted economic wins. He told the crowd about new jobs in the factory sector. According to him, the United States added 60,000 new manufacturing jobs this year, with heavy truck manufacturing rising by approximately 31 percent. He believes the GOP needs to talk more about these successes. “Somebody saying we’ve done a bad public relations job, but a great management job,” he said. He maintains that the goal is to deliver the best numbers of any president by getting the message out.
The tour continues to other states. He is heading to Oklahoma and upstate New York soon. He may also visit Alaska. The focus remains on helping Republican candidates win. Trump carried Texas by almost 15 points in 2024. He hopes to transfer that popularity to Paxton. The New York Post notes that Paxton is trailing in the polls. He faces questions about a legal investigation. Yet Trump remains firm in his support. He told the crowd, “We need Ken so badly, that’s why I am here.”
The White House meeting ends with no firm deal announced. The focus is on keeping the AI race ahead of China. The New York Post says China is about a year behind the US. Team Trump does not want to let them catch up. At the same time, the President is fighting for votes in Texas. He praised Paxton as a “special man.” He thanked him for being there but did not ask him to speak. The tension between the two men remains unclear. Reports say Paxton complained about poll numbers dropping after a recent convention. Despite this, Trump is pushing for his election. The outcome will depend on how well the message of job growth lands with voters.
Trump stated that Ken Paxton stood by his side more than anyone else, and he must always remember this because, to be honest, Ken Paxton could sometimes be a pain in the a–. That loyalty is now being tested at the ballot box.
