Speaker Johnson Calls Midterm Polls Wrong, Cites Flawed Data

House Speaker Mike Johnson declared on Sunday that polls predicting a Democratic win in next week’s midterms are simply wrong. Speaking on Fox News Sunday, he told host Shannon Bream that the surveys rely on faulty analysis and miss key voters. Johnson made these comments on October 25, 2026, just days before the election takes place.

Per Breitbart, Johnson argued that many polling organizations are under-sampling Republican voters by a wide margin. He pointed to a CNN report from less than a week ago that found 14 of the last 16 October polls missed Republicans by an average of four points. The speaker insists these numbers are off because Republicans are no longer answering poll calls.

Johnson shared his own experience traveling across the country to rally support for his party’s candidates. According to The Daily Caller, he has visited 21 states and 39 districts in just the last three weeks. He described the energy at these events as being similar to the excitement seen during the 2024 election cycle.

In the last six months, Johnson requested that audience members raise their hands during the interview if they had answered a poll. He noted that in arenas with 300 people, only about three hands would go up. “And this is what I do — when I’m in these big arenas, Shannon, I ask for hands,” Johnson added.

Bream pressed the speaker on whether Republicans have a messaging problem regarding the economy and gas prices. She noted that polls show voters feel very pessimistic about the direction of the country. Johnson acknowledged that gas prices are too high but argued the choice for voters remains clear.

He defended his party’s three-year record, listing specific achievements like the largest tax cut in U.S. history. “It’s not been easy, but we have an extraordinary record of delivering for the American people, fulfilling our promises,” Johnson said. He also cited a $1.6 trillion spending cut and the lowest violent crime rate in 126 years.

The speaker framed the upcoming election as a choice between stability and chaos. He warned that Democrats want to ban fossil fuels and have opened the border, which he claims drives up costs. Johnson believes the current direction of the country is the main issue for families.

“They don’t like the direction the country is moving in,” Bream stated while asking about voter sentiment. Johnson responded that a hostile media environment often obscures the real work being done. He emphasized that the ship of state is set on the right course and must continue.

The election results will determine if Republicans keep the House next Tuesday.
