GOP Congressional Members Comments On Johnson

When the GOP took over the House Rep. Matt Gaetz from Florida took it to McCarthy getting all the demands he hoped for to make his Speaker.

McCarthy was a middle-of-the-road Republican. Conservatives liked him, Trump liked him, and moderate Republicans liked him.

Gaetz’s then led the charge putting together a coalition of Republicans to oust McCarthy as Speaker citing that he violated his promise and relied on Democrat votes to pass a government funding bill.

Gaetz, with Rep. Nancy Mace (that should have been a red flag to everyone), made the rounds with conservatives claiming McCarthy is no good and a RINO, and they are standing up on principle.

Meanwhile, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tore into the 19 Republicans who voted to oust McCarthy, stating that this was the worst possible thing that could have happened.

The outcry to get rid of McCarthy was “no more rinos.”

For the most part McCarthy too conservative for RINOs and not conservative enough for hardliners. Not to mention there was a personal grunge going on between he and Gaetz. Meanwhile, MTG tried to warn everyone what would happen if McCarthy was ousted.

Fast forward a bit and Speaker Mike Johnson is elected Speaker of the House.

In a statement on his website, Gaetz said:

“The swamp is on the run,” Gaetz said. “MAGA is ascendant.”

“If you don’t think that moving from Kevin McCarthy to MAGA Mike Johnson shows ascendance of this movement and where the power in the Republican Party truly lies, then you’re not paying attention,” he added.

Gaetz said “the swamp” was “crying” and “bed-wetting” because the House has an “honorable, righteous man” as Speaker.

“He’s gonna do great things for the country,” Gaetz added.

According to Gaetz, a House Member asked for a “unanimous consent” to waive Conference rules to poll Members on a potential Johnson Speakership on Tuesday night. McCarthy reportedly opposed the unanimous consent poll.

“It showed everyone that it was actually McCarthy who was willing to knife [Steve] Scalise,” Gaetz said of former GOP Speaker nominee. “It was actually McCarthy who was working to knife Jim Jordan. It was McCarthy working to knife everyone.”

Rep. Johnson was voted unanimously by Republicans to become Speaker and look where that got things.

Oh, and for a bit of irony, the Freedom Caucus chair that booted MTG partially because of her support for McCarthy voted to oust McCarthy and approved Johnson. Now they are complaining about Speaker Johnson.

Gaetz has been really silent, and you may have noticed his sudden lack of participation in interviews.

Perhaps Rep. Mike Lawler (R – NY) put it best during an interview.

“Some of these folks have nobody to blame but themselves for why Speaker Johnson’s hand in negotiations has been weakened,” Lawler said. “It’s their actions that have done that.”

“I look at this very simply,” he said. “In October, the House was thrown into chaos by Matt Gaetz and seven useful idiots that teamed up with him within the Republican Conference and 208 Democrats.”

“And at this moment — when you see what happened in the aftermath of vacating the chair and Israel attacked in a terrorist attack a week later, to do that again would be detrimental to the country and global security.”

Oh and it’s not just the politicians it’s “conservative” influencers.

For example, the very popular X (formerly twitter) account Catturd ripped McCarthy in the lead up to his ouster drumming up support to dump him.

Now, here’s Captured on April 19, 2024.

Why is he like this? He gets paid for engagement on X.
