In a preview of a forthcoming podcast interview, Hunter Biden criticized fellow Democrats for their failure to support his father, former President Joe Biden, blaming disloyalty within the party for losing the 2024 election to Donald Trump.
Speaking with former DNC Chair Jaime Harrison on the debut season of the new podcast At Our Table, Hunter Biden offered a candid post-mortem of the Democratic Party’s performance in November.
“We lost the election because we did not remain loyal to the leader of the party,” Hunter said. “We had the advantage of incumbency. We had the advantage of an incredibly successful administration, and the Democratic Party literally melted down.”
His comments come amid continued Democratic soul-searching following a chaotic and divisive election year. President Joe Biden initially sought reelection but withdrew from the race after a widely criticized debate performance against Trump.
He later endorsed then–Vice President Kamala Harris, who went on to lose to Trump in the general election.
Hunter’s remarks underscore the tension between party operatives and the Biden family, many of whom were frustrated by public calls—even from prominent Democrats—for the elder Biden to step aside before he formally exited the race.
One such moment came when Rep. Nancy Pelosi notably declined to rule out the idea of Biden dropping out, sparking internal backlash, particularly from First Lady Jill Biden.
The interview also touches on President Biden’s controversial pardon of his son in the final days of his term, which cleared Hunter of federal charges related to drug use, firearm possession, and tax evasion. At the time, Biden argued that his son had been “singled out only because he is my son.”
Even after leaving office, the former president and his family remain at the center of political discussion. Recent reporting has focused on alleged efforts to conceal the extent of Biden’s cognitive decline and growing criticism over the use of autopen signatures in official documents, including pardons — a controversy that has since sparked an ongoing investigation ordered by President Trump.
