Well, Friday’s ceremony on the Capitol steps was certainly a spectacle. Senior Democrats, led by none other than Nancy Pelosi and her new sidekick, Hakeem Jeffries, commemorated what they described as the “solemn day” marking two years since the events of January 6, 2021.
And boy, did they lean into the drama. Tears flowed, bells tolled, and speeches thundered with righteous indignation. It was a production worthy of prime-time TV, except the script had a few glaring issues that, predictably, no one in the mainstream media was rushing to fact-check.
Let’s start with the narrative. Democrats painted January 6 as an existential threat to democracy, a “bloodthirsty” mob intent on bringing the republic to its knees. Hakeem Jeffries declared, with a flourish, that the mob “failed” because of the “bravery and valor” of Capitol and Metropolitan police officers.
No one denies that many officers acted courageously under difficult circumstances. But invoking the deaths of five officers and tying them directly to that day? That’s where the storytelling veers into problematic territory.
Take the tragic case of Officer Brian Sicknick. Initial claims suggested he died from injuries sustained during the riot. Later, the D.C. medical examiner ruled his death was due to natural causes—a stroke—attributed to existing health conditions. It’s deeply disrespectful to politicize his passing for a convenient soundbite.
As for the other officers who tragically took their own lives in the months following January 6, tying these suicides directly to that day is speculative at best. These are complex, deeply personal tragedies that deserve sensitivity, not exploitation.
Meanwhile, the event was presented as a “bipartisan” gathering, yet there was an elephant-sized hole on those Capitol steps—Republican leadership. Instead of participating in the emotional pageantry, GOP leaders were handling actual business, such as the grueling negotiations to elect Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House.
One Republican was spotted at the ceremony—Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania—but the majority were noticeably absent. Democrats feigned shock, but can we really blame Republicans for skipping a partisan spectacle wrapped in the guise of unity?
What’s truly fascinating is how quickly the media memory-holes any scrutiny of January 6 while ignoring the violent riots that engulfed major cities throughout 2020. Billions in damages, dozens dead, and countless officers injured—but you won’t see a national commemoration for those who suffered during those riots. Why? Because it doesn’t fit the narrative that only one day of chaos matters.
And let’s not forget Pelosi’s tearful theatrics. Two years ago, as rioters breached the Capitol, she fled for safety—fair enough. But how about acknowledging her role in leaving the Capitol underprepared? Security failures that day weren’t just happenstance; they were a series of bureaucratic missteps that the Speaker of the House herself shares responsibility for. Funny how that’s never brought up in these heartfelt remembrances.
Then, a Democrat Senator posted this and was hit with a brutal fact-check.

Friday’s ceremony was less about honoring officers or reflecting on that day and more about theatrics to keep January 6 front and center. Democrats have mastered using it as a political cudgel, and the mainstream media is more than happy to play along. They may call it a “solemn day,” but for many Americans watching this charade unfold, it felt more like political theater—complete with crocodile tears and self-righteous monologues.
