Lindsay Clancy’s lawyer stepped outside a Massachusetts courthouse on Monday. He called the media coverage of the trial “horrific.” This came just hours before jurors ended their third day of deliberations without a verdict. The attorney targeted two specific conservative voices. He named Sean Hannity and Nancy Grace by name.
Kevin Reddington told reporters that the commentary had gone too far. He stated that he referred to Mr. Hannity, whose team scrutinized every detail of Lindsay’s symptoms while condemning. Reddington then turned his attention to Grace. He called her the “Queen of Mean” and accused her of misrepresenting the facts.
Reddington challenged Grace directly on her claims. “I challenge Nancy Grace to show us where Lindsay Clancy ever said, ever googled ‘How to kill’ — words that came out of (Grace’s) mouth,” he said. He argued that these comments hurt people. “These things hurt, these things hurt people. If you’re going to be a journalist, do it right,” Reddington stated.
The jury has now deliberated for roughly 17 hours since Thursday. They have five sentencing options available to them. A conviction for first-degree murder results in life imprisonment without parole eligibility. Life with the chance of parole is the penalty for second-degree murder. Manslaughter carries up to 20 years. Prosecutors say Clancy killed her three children because she was depressed.
In January 2023, Clancy killed Cora, age 5, Dawson, age 3, and Callan, 8 months old, by strangulation. Her defense claims postpartum psychosis severed her grip on reality. Just before 4 p.m., the judge dismissed the panel, who will resume their duties at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Judge William Sullivan told them to “stay the course” and avoid outside coverage.
According to The Daily Caller, there is a stark divide in how people view the case. Two conservative correspondents interviewed men and women on the street. Women often cited TikTok as they defended Lindsay. One woman even used “very sleep deprived” as an excuse. Another claimed the husband “should go to jail for negligence.”
Men across the board said she should go to prison. The Daily Caller noted that the jury includes nine women and three men. At least two of the women reportedly wore pink in solidarity. The defense attorney argued that commentators had gone through his client’s reported symptoms one by one. The jury has asked for prescription pill bottles and the knife Clancy used on herself.
Legal analyst Elyse Hershon said the panel may be searching for a motive. “The jury is going to be looking for that why,” Hershon said. Clancy pleaded not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. She did not testify during the five-week trial. Jurors heard from more than 70 prosecution witnesses and 10 defense witnesses.
The case remains a focal point of intense public debate. Reddington described the jurors as “very thorough” in their review of the evidence. The outcome will determine if Clancy faces life in prison or a mental health facility. The defense team maintains that her mental illness played a central role in the tragedy.
