AOC Declines To Attend Inauguration

Oh, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Where would Republicans be without her endless fountain of hyperbole, Instagram theatrics, and baffling leaps in logic? The self-styled socialist from New York is back at it again—this time ranting about the “eve of an authoritarian administration” while President-elect Donald Trump hasn’t even put his hand on the Bible yet. Strap in, folks, because AOC’s Sunday tirade is a ride as bumpy as a Bronx pothole.

First, let’s set the scene: Trump isn’t even in office, but according to AOC, TikTok (yes, the app where teens dance and post bad lip-syncs) is already a tool of “21st-century fascism.” Why? Because the platform credited Trump for working with ByteDance, its Chinese parent company, to prevent a ban that was set to kick in under Biden’s administration. That’s right—Trump, who hasn’t even been sworn in, is apparently colluding with TikTok to destroy democracy. If this sounds insane, that’s because it is.

AOC went on to accuse TikTok of “collaborating” with Trump and his incoming administration. Never mind that Trump is still technically a private citizen or that TikTok was staring down the barrel of a ban because of legislation signed by none other than Joe Biden. But hey, why let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory?

She also tried to drag Meta (formerly Facebook) and Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) into her narrative of conservative media domination. Her evidence? Mark Zuckerberg disabled fact-checking on Facebook and Instagram. Never mind that Zuckerberg also donated millions to Democrats during the 2020 election or that Musk’s X continues to ban users for “misinformation” in a way that disproportionately impacts conservatives. To AOC, anything she can’t control must be part of some shadowy right-wing plot.

And then there’s her favorite new villain: Viktor Orbán, Hungary’s prime minister. Apparently, AOC believes that Republicans are modeling their entire platform after Orbán, who she claims runs Hungary like some dystopian dictatorship. Never mind that Hungary, unlike, say, China (where TikTok originates), is an ally of the United States and a NATO member. It’s clear AOC just enjoys name-dropping foreign leaders she doesn’t like without offering any actual context.

But the pièce de résistance of her rant came when she called Trump a “rapist” in both an Instagram video and on X, claiming this as her reason for refusing to attend his inauguration. She even mocked conservative critics of her comments, posting, “Oh, are you triggered? Cry more.” How very statesmanlike of her.

For someone so deeply concerned about democracy, AOC seems awfully comfortable throwing around false accusations. Case in point: the whole “rapist” smear is based on a widely misreported civil verdict from E. Jean Carroll’s lawsuit against Trump. The court found him liable for sexual abuse—not rape, as AOC claims—and even ABC News had to pay $15 million in a settlement after falsely reporting otherwise. Facts matter, but apparently not to the congresswoman, who seems more interested in hurling insults than engaging in any meaningful policy discussion.

This isn’t AOC’s first meltdown, and it certainly won’t be her last. Every few months, she takes to social media to decry “fascism” and “authoritarianism,” which in her world means anything that isn’t explicitly aligned with her far-left worldview. Meanwhile, the very authoritarian practices she warns against—censorship, deplatforming, and controlling speech—are tools her own side uses regularly.

Let’s also not forget the irony of AOC attacking Trump over TikTok while conveniently ignoring the real issue: the app’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party. Trump’s efforts to force ByteDance to sell its U.S. operations were motivated by legitimate national security concerns, which even Democrats like Biden acknowledged. Yet AOC, ever the contrarian, voted against the bipartisan legislation targeting TikTok. Apparently, she’s fine with Beijing harvesting Americans’ data but draws the line at Trump getting credit for saving the app.

At the end of the day, AOC’s rant was just another example of her addiction to attention and outrage. Whether it’s Instagram videos, X threads, or performative floor speeches, she thrives on drama and division. It’s all theater for her base, who eat up her wild claims without question.

Here’s the bottom line: AOC is a gift to Republicans. Every time she opens her mouth, she reminds the country why the far-left’s hysterics are out of touch with the average American. As she rails against “authoritarianism” on her iPhone while sipping her $8 Starbucks latte, the rest of us can only roll our eyes and wonder how someone so unserious keeps getting reelected.
