The death of Charlie Kirk was shocking enough — a 31-year-old husband, father, and conservative activist gunned down by a sniper while doing what he loved most: debating young people on a college campus. But what came after was a second tragedy of its own: the reactions.
It’s one thing to expect ghoulish commentary from anonymous corners of the internet. It’s another to hear audible cheering and laughter broadcast live on TMZ at the very moment the news of Kirk’s assassination was being reported. Yes, cheering.
Listen to this video of @TMZ announcing the death of Charlie Kirk. You can audibly hear the staff cheering as the receive the news that Kirk has died. It is seconds before it is relayed to the on air host. Disgusting. pic.twitter.com/8b8BJVyD2r

The clip speaks for itself. Harvey Levin, the founder of TMZ, was announcing the death of Charlie Kirk — a man whose only crime was being too bold in defending ideas the Left despises — when, in the background, you hear laughter and clapping. It’s unmistakable. The grotesque sound of mockery breaking into what should have been a somber moment.
And what did TMZ do when the backlash hit? Did they apologize immediately? Did they show humility? No. They tried to gaslight their viewers. They claimed the laughter wasn’t about Kirk’s death, but about a car chase their staffers happened to be watching at the same time. As though millions of people don’t know the difference between grief and glee, between solemnity and spectacle.

Think about that. They didn’t just deny — they doubled down. No apology to Kirk’s widow, Erika, or to his two small children. No acknowledgment that the optics, at the very least, were cruel. Just a shrug and an excuse.
But here’s the truth: this isn’t about a car chase. It’s about a culture that treats conservatives as subhuman. A culture where the assassination of a man like Charlie Kirk can be brushed aside, laughed at, or even celebrated because he dared to say boys are boys, girls are girls, and America is worth defending.
TMZ says the laughing in the background heard while reporting that Charlie Kirk was assassinated was employees watching a car chase.

We already knew who these people were. We knew the contempt they carried for men like Kirk. What’s shocking is that they’re so comfortable revealing it, even in a moment as sacred as reporting on the death of a young father.
There is nothing lower. Nothing more evil.
