Another violent “teen takeover” erupted in Washington, D.C., over the weekend when a massive fight broke out inside a Chipotle restaurant in the Navy Yard neighborhood — and the chaos was caught on video just days after federal prosecutors warned parents they could soon face criminal charges for failing to control their children.
The footage, which quickly spread across social media, shows a mob of teenagers swarming the restaurant before the situation descends into complete disorder. Punches fly in every direction as teens climb over tables and slam into furniture while terrified customers try to move out of the way.
At one point, the violence escalates even further when a teenager grabs a child’s highchair and uses it as a weapon, striking another teen over the head from behind.
Nearby, a small girl can be seen clinging to her father as the fight unfolds around them.
Witness videos captured screaming, crashing furniture, and groups of teens scrambling as chairs began flying across the restaurant. Many of the participants wore nearly identical black outfits and concealed their faces with medical-style masks.
Outside the Chipotle, groups of teenage girls gathered on the sidewalk watching the chaos unfold. Some appeared shocked as furniture started becoming weapons, while others laughed and cheered the violence on.
“Oh my f—ing God, bro, damn!” one girl shouted in footage circulating online.
Moments later, flashing police lights reflected through the restaurant windows.
“The police! Oh, we gotta go!” the same girl screamed before fleeing the area on foot.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how many arrests, if any, were made in connection with the incident, nor have officials publicly clarified the exact date of the fight.
The disturbing scene comes amid growing frustration in Washington over repeated “teen takeovers” that have disrupted public spaces across the city in recent months, particularly around Navy Yard. Residents and business owners have complained about large groups of unsupervised juveniles flooding commercial districts, fighting, vandalizing property, and intimidating pedestrians.
Last week, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced a major escalation in the government’s response.
Pirro said federal prosecutors will begin targeting parents of minors involved in these incidents, arguing that many of the teenagers involved are roaming the city without supervision while engaging in increasingly dangerous behavior.
“We’re going to charge them,” Pirro warned. “And if you drop your kid off and you fail to supervise them or you let them skip school to join the chaos, you are going to face fines, court-ordered classes and possible jail time.”
Under the proposed enforcement strategy, parents could face charges for contributing to the delinquency of a minor — an offense carrying penalties of up to six months in jail.
“This sends a clear message to the parents that you must supervise your kids or face criminal consequences,” Pirro said.
The announcement immediately sparked backlash from some community activists and local leaders, who argued the approach risks criminalizing struggling families instead of addressing deeper social breakdowns.
“Policing and putting people in jail is actually kind of how we got to where we’re at now,” Navy Yard Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Nic Wilson told WJLA. “We’re not going to police our way out of this situation.”
Still, city officials have already tried softer approaches with limited success.
