Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) recently spoke out to issue a warning that the United States must now take strides to raise its current military preparedness or it will face an almost certain war against communist China in the near future.
Graham made the comments during an interview this past Easter Sunday on Fox News’ “Fox News Sunday” while carrying on a conversation about U.S. national security.
The senator’s comments were made in the wake of China carrying out a number of highly aggressive military drills over the past weekend which was seemingly attempting to intimidate the free nation of Taiwan. The military exercises started due to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-Wen meeting up with top U.S. leaders on U.S. soil last week.
“Taiwan’s not the problem,” Graham stated to Shannon Bream, the host of the show. “Lindsey Graham’s not the problem. It’s Putin and it’s Xi.”
Graham stated that acts of deterrence were the most logical option and that it could only happen by having a superior military and technology.
“I would increase training and get the F-16s they need in Taiwan. There’s a backlog. I would solve that backlog. I would move more forces to South Korea and Japan,” stated Graham. “I would up our game. If you don’t up your game now, you are going to have a war.”
Graham did speak up to make note that the situation regarding the nation of Taiwan is entirely different that what is taking place in Ukraine and that a full-scale invasion from China could see a full response with U.S. troops being pulled into the fighting.
“Nobody wants World War III. But what kind of world do you want to live in? Do you want to live in a world where an island called Taiwan could be taken by China?” stated Graham. “90% of the high-end microchips are made in Taiwan. They would have a monopoly on the digital economy.”
