Omar Responds To Trump Comments

President Donald Trump used the signing of a major executive order Thursday not only to set the stage for TikTok’s sale but also to unleash a blistering attack on some of his favorite Democratic targets.

The order, signed in the Oval Office with Vice President JD Vance, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Attorney General Pam Bondi at his side, effectively cleared the way for TikTok to be sold off at a valuation of $14 billion. But while the policy move was historic, it was Trump’s off-the-cuff remarks that dominated the moment.

Fielding questions from reporters, Trump pivoted sharply to criticize Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), two progressive lawmakers who have consistently opposed his agenda.

Trump, who has long mocked Omar as one of the most radical voices in Congress, again tied her to her native Somalia. “I met the head of Somalia,” Trump recounted. “And I suggested that maybe he’d like to take her back. And he said, ‘I don’t want her.’”

He then turned his sights on Crockett, offering one of his trademark verbal jabs. “Recently, Jasmine Crockett. Yes, yes, I remember what I said. Is she any relation to the late, great Davy Crockett? I don’t think so,” Trump quipped before landing the punchline. “She’s a very low IQ person. I mean, if we ever had to pass an aptitude test, that’s the one [who] should take one. … I can’t even believe she’s a congressperson.”

The comments were classic Trump: blunt, unscripted, and certain to ignite headlines. By weaving his political rivals into a press event meant to showcase a major economic decision, the president again demonstrated his instinct for blending policy with political theater.

While critics will no doubt blast his remarks as beneath the dignity of the office, Trump’s supporters are likely to see them as proof that he hasn’t lost his edge in calling out the progressive figures he paints as out of touch with American values.

The signing itself was no small matter — TikTok, valued at $14 billion, now faces a likely sale under conditions dictated by the Trump administration. But in typical fashion, it was the president’s words about Omar and Crockett that ensured the Oval Office event would echo far beyond the policy pages.
