Just when you think the federal government couldn’t possibly find new and creative ways to waste taxpayer money, we find out that the Biden administration spent over $8 million on transgender experiments—on mice. Yes, while Americans struggled with skyrocketing inflation, an open border crisis, and global instability, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was busy funding studies that injected mice with estrogen and testosterone to explore the mysteries of “gender-affirming care.”
President Trump called this absurdity out during his address to Congress, and the chamber erupted in laughter when he stated, “Eight million dollars for making mice transgender. This is real.” But of course, the media couldn’t let that slide. CNN, always quick to defend the indefensible, rushed to “fact-check” Trump, claiming he had “falsely” accused the government of spending $8 million on transgender mice. Their argument? The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) only identified $477,121 for three separate projects involving estrogen in monkeys—because, apparently, that’s supposed to be better.

Unfortunately for CNN, the White House fired back with an actual fact sheet detailing at least six studies—funded by the NIH, all on mice, all involving gender ideology, and all costing taxpayers over $8 million. Turns out, Trump was right (as usual), and the “fact-checkers” were just doing what they do best—running cover for Democrats.

One of these groundbreaking taxpayer-funded studies involved treating male and female mice with estrogen to explore how to better “treat and prevent asthma in cis and transgender women.” Cost? $3.1 million over four years. Another study, which kicked off last year, spent $1.2 million researching how testosterone affects the reproductive systems of biological women who take testosterone—because apparently, decades of real-world data on this wasn’t enough.
Then there was the study that injected male mice with estrogen and female mice with testosterone to analyze how hormone drugs impact the gut microbiome and skeletal maturation. That one set taxpayers back a cool $735,113. But perhaps the most jaw-dropping experiment was the $2.5 million study that gave mice both puberty blockers and testosterone to mimic female-to-male gender transitions. Their conclusion? The mice suffered “defects in ovarian architecture” and experienced changes in egg development. You don’t say.

If you’re keeping track at home, that’s nearly half a million dollars to determine how male and female mice respond differently to a vaccine after being pumped full of cross-sex hormones. Groundbreaking science, really.
So while American families were stretching their budgets to afford groceries, gas, and housing under Biden’s disastrous economic policies, the federal government was busy funding hormone therapy for rodents. No wonder Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), spearheaded by Elon Musk, is cracking down on wasteful spending. Because, let’s be honest—if your federal budget includes any line item for transgender mice, it’s time to rethink your priorities.
