The details emerging from the arrest of James Pearce Jr. read less like a misunderstanding and more like a case study in how quickly a personal dispute can spiral into something far more dangerous.
According to police documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Pearce Jr. is accused of intentionally striking a law enforcement officer with his Lamborghini while attempting to evade arrest, all following an alleged domestic incident involving WNBA star Rickea Jackson.
Jackson told police that she and Pearce Jr. had recently ended a three-year relationship and that she blocked his number in an effort to cut off further contact. That boundary, she said, did not hold. According to her statement, Pearce Jr. used an alternate phone number to continue reaching out, behavior that would later factor into the stalking charge he now faces.
The situation escalated on February 7 as Jackson was leaving an apartment complex. She reported noticing Pearce Jr.’s Lamborghini SUV following her and attempted to get away.
While stopped at a red light, she said he approached her vehicle and tried to open the door. At that point, Jackson drove toward the Doral City Police Department, a decision that suggests she believed the situation posed an immediate threat.
According to the police report, Pearce Jr. was not deterred. Officers allege he intentionally rammed the rear of Jackson’s vehicle. After briefly separating, he allegedly cut her off again and collided head-on with her car. By the time police arrived, the incident had already crossed from a domestic dispute into a violent public confrontation.
Officers say Pearce Jr. ignored verbal commands, locked himself inside the vehicle, and then fled the scene, striking an officer in the left knee while doing so in what police describe as an intentional attempt to evade arrest.
After crashing the vehicle again, Pearce Jr. reportedly fled on foot before being apprehended following a brief chase. Even then, officers say he resisted arrest by tensing his arms and refusing to comply.
The charges are severe: two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking, and fleeing and eluding police. Pearce Jr., a first-round NFL draft pick and current Falcons linebacker, appeared in court Sunday from a Miami jail, where bond was set at $20,500 and a stay-away order was issued.
