Media Outlet Reports On Security For Memorial

If you’ve spent any time on X, you’ve seen it: the Angry Goose meme. It’s the perfect response to someone saying something so willfully blind, so jaw-droppingly oblivious, that it demands a loud, honking wake-up call. And yesterday, the goose honked straight at The Washington Post.

Why? Because the Post ran a story about Charlie Kirk’s memorial service in Glendale, Arizona, fixating not on the assassination that made the service necessary, not on the man’s legacy, not even on the historic turnout — but on the security.

That’s right. The big story, according to WaPo’s team of three reporters, was how expensive and “unprecedented” it all was.

Cue the goose:
“WHY SO MUCH SECURITY, WaPo?”

Well, let’s see. A conservative leader was just gunned down on stage at Utah Valley University. An armed man was arrested trespassing at the Glendale venue just days before the memorial. And oh yeah — the event was attended by President Trump, the Vice President, Cabinet members, and virtually every prominent conservative figure in America.

Gee. Can’t imagine why the Department of Homeland Security gave it the same designation as a Super Bowl.

But instead of acknowledging the obvious, the Post twisted itself into pretzels with lines like:

  • “Kirk was not only a private citizen but a figure who, until his killing, was not well known to a large swath of Americans …”
Translation: He didn’t matter until he died, so why bother protecting anyone now?
  • “… an act of apparently political violence …”
Apparently? He was literally targeted for his politics. Apparently Jonathan Karl wrote the style guide for this article.
  • “The lineup underscores how quickly Kirk’s death has taken on political dimensions …”
No, WaPo — it wasn’t “seized upon.” It was political from the first bullet.
  • “… the president and his deputies have seized the moment …”
Ah yes, the trusty “Republicans pounce” framing. A man is assassinated, and instead of focusing on the assassin, the press scolds Republicans for daring to speak at his funeral.

Here’s the part the Post won’t admit: they don’t actually care about the resources. They care that conservatives dared to gather in strength and unity, under heavy protection, and remind the country that we won’t be soft targets.

Because let’s be honest: if this had been a liberal activist assassinated by a right-wing gunman, the media would demand not just “Super Bowl security” but a national reckoning, a 24/7 media cycle, and permanent task forces to “combat extremist violence.” But for Charlie Kirk? They whine about the cost.

The Angry Goose knows better. It’s not about resources. It’s about contempt.
